MITCH CLARKE SIGNS WITH NJCAA DIVISION 1 POWERHOUSE WALTER STATE SENATORS
November 13, 2008  --

Several times over the past two years, the Terriers faithful would have voted lefty Mitch Clarke for President. He will settle in nicely as a Senator.

The ace of the 2008 Terriers pitching staff has taken the next big step in his very promising baseball career, committing to the Walter State Senators (NJCAA D1) this week. He will sign his national letter of intent in January.

A product of Kitchener Minor Baseball, Mitch joined the Terriers in the fall of 2007 and made a major impact in the starting rotation immediately. During the past two seasons he has never had a sub par outing and has dominated 18u and college competition alike.

Walter State is nick named "the Great Smoky Mountains College" and is located in Morristown TN. After their World Series Championship in 2006 (61-8) the Senators continued to roll in 2007 when they were the  #1 ranked pre season team  in the nation. In 2008 they were the Tennessee JCCAA Regular Season Champions, Region VII Champions, and appeared in the World Series again.

Mitch possesses pin point control of his mid 80s fast ball and his devastating curve.  He is polished beyond his years, a work horse, often taking the ball twice in most tournaments, as he did in Nashville this past summer, bagging two wins.

Pitching coach, Joe Seaver scouted Mitch last summer in Tennessee and again this fall in Jupiter Florida. The Senators only recruit cream of the crop prospects, a testament to the 6 roster players they had drafted last June.  Mitch will thrive in this environment, and is very deserving of this tremendous scholarship.

Mitch has many impressive accomplishments.  Here is an overview of some of his more recent ones:

  • He was a perfect 4 and 0 this fall with the Terriers.
  • In October at the Perfect Game World Championship (Jupiter FL), he struck out 10, a complete game 4-3 victory for Farrah Builders (NJ).
  • In August Mitch had the honour of being selected to pitch for the Pittsburgh Pirates Scout Team in Long Island NY.
  • On the local front, he was named a 1st Team All-Star in the JR Intercounty loop, threw a no hitter at the Cannon Cup (Gold Medal Champion) and was awarded the Terriers Most Outstanding Pitcher Award.

His highlights during PBLO play include a no hitter on May 24th versus the Ontario Blue Jays. That night he faced only 23 hitters, striking out 17! On May 11th, he struck out 11 T-Birds, spinning a masterful one hitter. Late in April, Mitch mowed down the Niagara Rebels with 16Ks, yet another one hit victory.

Mitch Clarke's 2008 record with the Terriers was 19-2, 118 IP, 181 Ks and a 1.21 ERA.  Simply staggering!

Congratulations and continued success to Mitch and his family.
